Bing vs Google Browser Wars Erupt

I can recall as far back as 1998 on the Internet, the most common browsers were:

  1. Internet Explorer
  2. Netscape

The most common Search engines were:

  1. Yahoo
  2. Alta Vista
  3. Lycos
  4. Excite
  5. Web Crawler
  6. Aol Search
  7. Aardvark

According to my source, I stand to be corrected,  in September 15 1997 Google the Search Engine was formed. Since that day Yahoo has played second fiddle to the “Almighty” Google. Google run by Larry Page and Sergey Brin has had dominance in this market until Microsoft has released Bing. Microsoft has been crafty and innovative in the products its been churning out and one that comes mind is Office Suite for Mac Os X. With the drive towards Linux/Open Source applications and consumers adopting Apple products and this open source way of thinking shall be the order of the day soon.

The following extract from USA Today aptly describes what has been brewing for a while now

The battle is on

Google has been locked in a battle with Microsoft for years.

Microsoft urges consumers to use its MSN.com as a home page on the Web, to make its new Bing (formerly Live) their search engine of choice, and to use its Internet Explorer browser, effectively bypassing Google.

Google — the most visited website worldwide — countered last year with Chrome, its own browser. It says some 30 million people are using it now.

Don’t like Microsoft’s Office software? Google offers online word processing, spreadsheet and presentation programs that are free.”

Well I use most of Google products including:

  1. Google Apps
  2. Gmail
  3. Google Reader
  4. Google Adsense
  5. Blogger
  6. Google Alerts
  7. Google Webmaster Tools

I believe Bing to very fast and its interface superior to Google’s, well I watch this space to find out what happens in this Search Engine and Browser and Operating System Wars.

  1. Microsoft Bing would be the closet competitor of Google. but i still use Google because it shows more relevant results on the serp.

  2. BING search engine is just as good as Google. In my own personal experience, Google does give more releveant search result than Bing but the difference is very small. **

  3. i think that Bing is not as good as Google. Google would still index new websites faster than Bing. Microsoft would still need a lot of catching to do with GoogleBot.
